Top Five Operating Systems of 2010-2011 - Statistic Report

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Monday, October 3, 2011 | 7:39 AM

According to the current statistic report from StatCounter.com in which they have compared the statistic of Top Five Operating Systems from September 2010 till October 2011, OS includes Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Mac OSX and Linux and its really strange for me to know the result as compare to my previous report.

The current statistic report shows that Windows 7 has finally overtake Windows XP, which is obvious and good to hear from latest Microsoft OS. Windows 7 now holds the total percent of 43.84% share of market as compare to Windows XP which were holds only 38.65% when its was launched back in 2001, but the strange part is that Mac OSX and Linux are going smoothly fine and they are on same platform or line of growing and there is no Ups and Downs as compare to Microsoft's New OS Windows 7.

Windows 8 Design, Interface and UI Demo Video Revealed by Microsoft

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Friday, June 3, 2011 | 6:23 AM

No more wait for Microsoft Windows 8 first look, Microsoft has officially declared and revealed most awaited version of Windows after Windows 7 codename 'Windows 8'. The Microsoft official event were not streamed live, the video from Computex has now been posted up for everyone to view. The upcoming version of Windows 8 will look a lot like Windows Phone 7. But the familiar PC design is still there to support systems.

Microsoft revealed the design and UI Demo for Windows 8 at the All Things Digital Conference. Microsoft is now borrowing a page from Apple's iOS and Google's Android. Windows 8 takes the colorful tiles and finger-swipe gestures from the Windows Phone operating system and expands them to a larger screen in this demo, 10.6 inches diagonally.

The video goes into detail about Microsoft's next operating system. The video focuses on the tablet interface which shows Microsoft's strategy for combating iOS and Android in the tablet market. In the video, Microsoft Corporate Vice President, Mike Angiulo, takes the stage and shows off the platform in a 32 minute long presentation.

Windows 8 is still in development, so it's unclear how well the system will run on tablets. The demo was silky smooth, but the touchscreen Microsoft used was connected to a hidden desktop computer, rather than contained within the portable hardware.

Microsoft says Windows 8 will be able to run on processors designed by ARM Holdings, in addition to Intel chips. That's an important addition because ARM's technology is winning among most smartphone and tablet makers. ARM President Tudor Brown predicted on Monday that his chips will be used in at least half of all mobile devices sold, which includes laptops.

Microsoft has released the Internet Explorer 10 platform preview video for users. Microsoft published the video on Channel9 website and is currently developing the platform and looking for user feedback. Microsoft more said that:

According to Microsoft representative Internet Explorer 10 will not be available for Windows Vista users. Just a day after announcing the Platform Preview for IE10, Vista users will not be able to install the Platform Preview, nor the final release of Internet Explorer 10.

Both the release notes and installation process mention that the IE10 Platform Preview 1 requires Windows 7 32 bit or 64bit for installation. According to Computerworld, Microsoft also made it clear that when Internet Explorer 10 launches, only Windows 7 users will be able to install the latest version of the browser.

The Internet Explorer Platform Preview requires Windows 7 (x86 or x64) Operating System. Platform Preview 4 and later require updates to be installed on Windows 7 systems, after which your computer will require a restart.

Download & Install Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Through Windows Update Now

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Thursday, February 24, 2011 | 7:44 AM

As we reported earlier about release of Windows 7 SP 1 from Microsoft website. Now users can also get Windows 7 SP 1 from their Windows Update section. The service pack is now available online through Windows Update.

Windows update was the likely method of download as the standalone installer required up to 8GB of free disk space to install whereas it seems through Windows update requires a maximum of 540MB. For users with only a few PCs to worry about, Windows update is the likely route however those with a greater amount can choose between the standalone installer or online installation which requires up to 1GB to install.

As reported earlier, SP1 only comes with two major new features, those being RemoteFX and HyperV - features that shouldnt affect the majority of users. However likewise with most SPs that Microsoft release for Windows it comes with some security fixes and other minor tweaks.

Microsoft has also provided a spreadsheet of the changes and security fixes in which we can see in detail the changes that have been made.

To download the Windows Service Pack 1:

Download Microsoft Windows 7 SP 1 Now - Final Build

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 | 9:24 AM

Microsoft has released its much awaited Windows 7 Service Pack 1. Now users can Download Windows 7 Service Pack 1 live from Microsoft here.
One Week ago, Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 became available for MSDN/TechNet subscribers.

Windows 7 SP1 only contains two major new features, which will not affect the majority of users. The first of the two is RemoteFX, a standalone product that requires Windows Server 2008 R2 to be used. RemoteFX allows users to watch high-quality video and interact with 3D applications over a remote desktop session -- this will change the way Virtual Machines are used, as they have had limited display capabilities until now.

The second feature is an update for HyperV in Windows Server 2008 R2 called "Dynamic Memory". The feature is as simple as it sounds -- it dynamically allocates memory to virtual machines as required and is able to remove memory from virtual machines when others need higher resources. You can read more about the new features over on the Windows Server Team Blog.

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Update List Leaks

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 | 7:45 AM

The rumors about latest Windows 7 Service Pack still continues. Now Russian website Wzor has leaked a list of updates which compiled Windows 7 Service Pack 2 (SP2), the site claims that work on Windows 7 SP2 started in the fall of 2010, ahead of the finalization of SP1. We have already mentioned before in our blog about Release Date of Windows 7 SP 2 in middle of 2012.
Microsoft is said to include no less than 132 updates for x86 Windows 7 SP2, as much as 171 updates for x64 Windows 7 SP2 and 114 updates for IA-64 Windows Server 2008 R2 SP2 systems.

Microsoft had previously released an RC version of its upcoming service pack last October. The version, windows6.1-KB976932, had been officially released possibly due to the leaked version surfacing earlier in the same week. The Service Pack will provide several enhancements to Windows 7 including Remote FX and many incremental updates to the platform. The Release Candidate can be found here and weighs in at 865.4MB for the 64 bit version and 514.7MB for the 32 bit version.

The build reportedly went final on January 18, 2011, according to Techarp, and subsequently leaked to torrent sites on January 20th.

Here are the details of the reportedly final RTM build:

x86
Build: 7601.17514.101119-1850
File: Windows6.1-KB976932-X86.exe
Size: 563,934,504 bytes
SHA-1: C3516BC5C9E69FEE6D9AC4F981F5B95977A8A2FA
MD5: 4BF28FC00D86C936C89E2D91EF46758B
CRC: 5EB0FA87

x64
Build: 7601.17514.101119-1850
File: Windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe
Size: 947,070,088 bytes
SHA-1: 74865EF2562006E51D7F9333B4A8D45B7A749DAB
MD5: 28D3932F714BF71D78E75D36AA2E0FB8
CRC: 068C79C6

Microsoft have yet to announce a date to ship Windows 7 SP1 stating rather vaguely that it will be made available in the first half of 2011 as an integrated release.

As this release is an RC, a release candidate, it should be a stable version of the service pack, but as with any software that is not the final release version, install at your own risk.

Release Date of Windows 8 and Windows 7 SP Leaked Out

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Friday, January 21, 2011 | 8:24 AM

The latest news and information about Windows 8 and Windows 7 SP2 Launch Date has been leaked out by Wzor.net, who is very well known for as Infamous Leaker. Wzor.net has confirmed the news about the launching of Windows 8 pre beta and about Windows 7 SP2 launch.

According to Wzor.net Windows 7 SP2 is already actively underway since the autumn of 2010, and if all goes according to plan then the appearance of a second service pack, Service Pack 2 for Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 is expected in mid-2012 " and looking forward to Windows 8, Wzor states, " Windows 8 is scheduled for the very end of 2012, so it really can be called: Microsoft Windows 2012 Apocalypse Edition, at least the server version will be named as Windows Server 2012."

Further, for more recent information, the site states that Microsoft is planning two betas for Windows 8 and states that at least one, if not both versions, will be for public consumption and three months after the RC is released, Windows 8 will go RTM. Specific dates were not mentioned.

By far the biggest bombshell is that "according to our information, Microsoft will plan to begin selling boxed retail versions of Microsoft Windows on Monday January 7, 2013!

Again all this information comes from a reputable leaker but as with any information, its subject to verification. Hopefully the information is on track but as for Windows 8 leaks, Wzor states, Possible leaks in the network of test assemblies may be expected only close to the appearance of the first beta version of Windows 8 Beta 1"

Rumour: Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Release Date

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Friday, January 14, 2011 | 10:19 PM

Everybody wants to know when Microsoft is going to release Service Pack 1 for Windows 7. Now you won't have to wait longer. Today an update has given a strong clue that a final release of the first service pack for the operating system Windows 7 is not so far away.

According to a Microsoft support page, the imaginatively named KB976902 (Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 installation software feature update) makes changes to the operating system's servicing stack, needed to install and remove software updates, language packs, optional Windows features, and service packs.

''This update is necessary to successfully install and to remove any service packs to all versions of Windows 7 and on Windows Server 2008 R2,'' the page reads.

Given Microsoft's fondness for releasing service packs on either a Monday or a Tuesday - Windows Vista Service Pack 2 and Windows XP Service Pack 3 were both released on Tuesdays, XP Service Pack 1 on a Monday - the soonest Windows 7 Service Pack 1 is likely to be available is January 18.

Businesses can continue to use a blocker tool released in November last year until they are ready to deploy Service Pack 1.

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Saturday, January 1, 2011 | 9:57 PM

Google have launched its first of its kind Cr-48 Chrome Notebook. The Cr-48 Chrome Notebook is the test notebook designed for the Pilot program by Google. Google will distribute the laptop through its Chrome OS Pilot Program, in a sort of public beta. You actually have to apply to join the program, and there are going to be a limited number of the laptops available.

It's ready when you are, booting in about 10 seconds and resuming from sleep instantly. Theres built-in Wi-Fi and 3G, so you can stay connected everywhere, and a webcam for video chat. The vibrant 12-inch LCD display, full-size keyboard and oversized touchpad let you enjoy the web comfortably. And at just 3.8 pounds with over eight hours of active usage and a week of standby time, its easy to take along for the ride.

Chrome Cr-48 Laptops not only runs Chrome OS, but also it can runs Mac OS X and Windows 7 too. But its not Google who is officially providing these OS to run in Cr-48 because Mac OS X Snow Leopard and Windows 7 probably werent in Google's plan of an open development strategy for device.

Windows 7 install screen on Cr-48
Two accomplishments came within rather a close period of each other, one Cr-48 was hacked to run Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.5 and the other uses Windows 7. Both hacks require flashing modified BIOS on the Cr-48's. On the Insanely Mac forums, damis648 who writes a guide on how to put Mac OS X on your Cr-48, explaining the reason for needing the modified BIOS is due to the fact that the BIOS the Cr-48 ships with works differently than both the legacy BIOS and standard EFI.

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 RC Leak On Web

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 | 9:18 AM

Its well known that Microsoft is prepping a service pack for Windows 7, and now it appears an RC version has leaked to the web. The current build weighs in at a hefty 353 MB and is currently making its rounds on your favorite torrent site. Microsoft is expected to release a SP1 build this week at PDC 2010 on October 28th. Just with any service pack, Windows 7 SP1 will contain all previous fixes and patches rolled up into one update, as well as bug and security fixes that are still currently being tested.

According to Wzor, the leaked Windows 7 service pack comes in at Build 6.1.7601.17105.100929-1730, which indicates that the release was blessed by Microsoft on September 29th, almost a month ago. This age could also indicate that there are possible revisions to the release that is currently circulating.

Wzor has an incredible track record for these types of things, its probably safe to say that this is the real deal. However, as with any leak, install at your own risk as this is not an official release by Microsoft and depending on who you download it from, the file could have been altered.

IE 9 Doesn't Require 7 SP1

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Friday, September 24, 2010 | 9:52 PM

Update: Microsoft reached out to us via email saying that IE9 will run on either Windows 7 RTM or Service Pack 1. It seems like IE9 could come out earlier than next year, and wont actually require SP1 to work;
I want to follow up to let you know that the TechNet FAQ has been updated to provide further clarification about requirements for Internet Explorer 9.  Internet Explorer 9 will work on Windows 7 RTW and Windows 7 SP1.  When you install Internet Explorer 9 on a system that has Windows 7 RTM installed, additional operating system components are included as part of the installation of Internet Explorer 9.  Those additional operating system components will be part of Windows 7 SP1.  Either way, this will be a seamless process for the user.  Just wanted to make sure you had the latest.

Microsoft continues to push that its not essential for businesses to wait for SP1 and IE9, but to deploy now and roll out these updates later, when they are released. Microsoft explained on The Windows Blog why users shouldnt wait for SP1 or IE9 to upgrade.

This gives an estimate of when a final IE9 release is expected, since Windows 7 SP1 isnt due out until some time in the first half of 2011, but no specific date has been announced. A beta of Service Pack 1 is currently available.

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Beta Update

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 | 4:19 AM

Everybody is quite exciting about Microsoft Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Now the wait is over Microsoft has released a beta refresh of its Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack (SP) 1 to selected PC and Technology Adoption Program (TAP) partners, company officials confirmed on August 30.

Microsoft made the refresh build the build number of which is said to be Build No. 7601.17077 available to a select group of testers on August 27. Theres no word (so far) on whether there is anything new in that refresh.

The spokesperson said Microsoft would not comment on whether the company will release to the public another interim SP1 build before the first service pack is released to manufacturing. Microsoft officials said earlier this summer that the company is planning to deliver the final SP1 code in the first half of 2011, and the spokesperson said on August 30 that Microsoft is still on track with that stated release date.

The server version of SP1 includes two new virtualization-focused features: RemoteFX and a dynamic-memory adjustor for Hyper-V. Ive heard speculation that the server version of SP1 is whats holding back the delivery of the client version, but have not heard this from any Microsoft officials.

Microsoft released a public beta of SP1 in mid-July.

Microsoft officials have been adamant that consumers and business customers dont need to wait for SP1 to deploy Windows 7 and/or Windows Server 2008 R2. Still, a number of business customers use the release of SP1 as a milestone in terms of planning their deployments of a new operating system.

Windows 7 Overtake Windows XP by 2012

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Friday, August 20, 2010 | 1:10 AM

As we know Windows 7 is now become one of the most usage and successful windows after Windows XP. Everybody is now thinking When Will Windows 7 Overtake Windows XP ? And people are now really considering Windows 7 as compare to windows xp in many ways. I have noticed very strong evidence that Windows 7 has succeeded in a big way among early adopters and enthusiasts, who dominate the readership of a website like this one. I also see clear indications that businesses are adopting Windows 7 at a faster pace than in earlier Windows versions.

The monthly reports on operating system versions provide an ideal snapshot for my purposes, with data that goes back far enough to see meaningful trends. Using Excel, I plotted data from December 2008 (a month before the Windows 7 beta was made public) to July 2010 and then made some simple projections. Heres what the chart looks like; actual Net Market Share data is to the left of the line in the center of the chart, and my projections are to the right:

Yes, you can make a case for a hockey-stick growth curve with even a slight increase in the Windows 7 adoption rate. You could also argue for a slowdown, although I think that scenario is unlikely based on the overwhelmingly positive reception of Windows 7 in the market and where we are in the PC replacement cycle. The most likely scenario, in my opinion, is that the pace of migration from XP to Windows 7 will accelerate over the next two years as XP gets closer to its end-of-life date.

In the Net Market Share data, the percentage of Mac OS X use has remained in a very narrow range for that entire period. In December 2008, the total for Mac Intel and Mac OS was 4.45%. For July 2010, the Net Market Share report breaks usage by OS X version rather than hardware platform, but the total for OS X 10.6 and 10.5 is nearly identical at 4.42%. In between, the percentage of users never rose above 4.45% and never dropped below 4%.

As someone whos watched every Windows release since the early 1990s, I find it remarkable that Windows 7 usage has overtaken Vista so quickly, roughly nine months after it was released. NetMarketShare noted that trend with its July 2010 report. That same crossover appears in the ZDNet visitor data I posted yesterday, except that it happened about 8-10 months earlier. If the broad PC market is still lagging early adopters by that same gap, then I expect Net Applications will report that Windows 7 has passed XP in usage sometime next summer.

Microsoft Windows 8, Another Success after 7?

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 | 3:30 AM

Everyone seems to waiting for Microsoft another OS Windows 8 after the success of Windows 7, which should arrive in early-2012, has yet to receive much media attention. Thats probably because the most exciting thing weve heard about it so far is that it might have an app store, and other leaks have all been centered around performance improvements (which are a given).

Microsoft has a lot riding on Windows 8. Windows Vista hurt Microsofts reputation (rightly or wrongly), and Windows 7 was its savior. Windows 8 needs to be better than Windows 7 in ways that consumers can see, understand, and experience, and it needs to give consumers a reason to upgrade (or cross-grade) for it to equal or surpass Windows 7. The software giants latest release of Windows has skyrocketed PC sales, and scores a rating of94 percent customer satisfaction, according to CEO Steve Ballmer.

In the last few years, Microsoft has seen a lot of change with the departure of Gates, and then Bach and Allard in recent months, and with constant management shuffling, it will be interesting to see how Microsoft pulls its resources together to make Windows 8 the success that many are expecting it to be.
