33% of UK employees use social networking sites in office

The latest survey report of Infographic claims that 33% of UK employees use a social networking websites at work. The main competition was between Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. The result ratio was quite expected in which Facebook claims the most popular social networking site with (45 percent), after that LinkedIn with (20 percent), and last Twitter with (14 percent).

Facebook Diverting More Traffic to News Websites and Channels

Pew Research Center�s has published a report today about the Facebook influence upon news readership in which they have mentioned the importance of How Facebook diverting traffic to News reading websites. We have already seen numerous reports point out Facebook�s growing influence upon news readership and Pew Research Center�s Project for Excellence in Journalism released data showing exactly that.

Facebook ranks as the second or third largest driver of traffic to the top five news websites studied by Pew, based on data from Nielsen. According the Pew Research Center�s report Facebook has become the massive social networking site in term of diverting traffic to any website rapidly and fast, but one of the top sites for which there was referral data derived at least some of their audience through Facebook. The one exception was Google News, whose content links to other websites.


According to the Pew Research Center's Report, Facebook drives:
  • Around six percent of traffic to the Examiner.
  • Roughly seven percent of traffic to CNN.
  • About seven percent of traffic to ABC News.
  • Eight percent of traffic to The Huffington Post.
  • Six percent of traffic to The New York Times.

Milward Brown�s has published a report about the Top Fastest Growing Brands of 2011 in which they includes websites from different categories like social networking websites, technology websites, search engine websites, online shopping website, restaurants, commercial banks, stock markets, insurance companies etc. The most interesting part of that report is that first time Milward Brown�s has includes the social network website in their categories.

According to the Milward Brown�s report Facebook is the Fastest Growing Brand of 2011 and it�s toping the chart of annual ranking of the top 100 consumer-facing brands worldwide. Any strengthening of Facebook�s brand would probably register in the form of bigger advertising sales, and so far, revenue estimates seem to bear that out.

The brand strengthening also seems more fascinating when you consider it outpaces the likes of Starbucks in the pace of growth, According to the report.

How Internet Affects World Environment - Earth Day Special

We all know that Internet has now become one of the important element in all our life. On Earth Day we will find out how Internet is affecting our World Environment? Is it possible that our tech gadgets and online internet activities themselves might be harming the planet or earth in someway? We know that the data centers that power our favorite applications and websites are far from green, although Google and Facebook are attempting to change that, both in the kinds of energy we use and how much energy is needed.

An Environmental Organization, Greenpeace warns that the same companies have caused consumers� �addiction to dirty energy� and are increasing their energy consumption by around 12% each year. And everything we do online, from web searches to spam emails, leads to a certain amount of CO2.

Social Media Website's Availability & Page Loading Statistics

According to the latest Social Media Statistics report from AlertSite, comparing several social media websites to find which website loads fast enough and consumes less time to load pages. The social media websites which participate in this statistic report are Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitter and MySpace.


LinkedIn and YouTube hold the top two spots in availability.

According to the report, the social media site increased its average page loading speed from 1.06 seconds at the end of 2010 to .75 seconds this quarter.

YouTube follows behind it with an average response time of 1.46 seconds. In third place is LinkedIn at 1.69 seconds, and Twitter at 2.59 seconds.

Facebook has improved in availability and page loading times, according to the latest quarterly report by AlertSite. Facebook�s improved performance, both in faster page load times and greater availability, becomes more impressive when you consider that the site has gained around 100,000 additional users during the quarter. Facebook�s up time during the first quarter of 2011 was 99.88 percent, meaning Facebook has moved above what AlertSite considers the benchmark average for response times, 99.77 percent. 

No surprises here: MySpace is the slowest responding social media site, coming in at a lagging load time of 5.60 seconds.
