Download and Install Android Gingerbread 2.3.3 Update Manually from Google

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Friday, February 25, 2011 | 7:47 AM

Many Google Nexus S and Nexus One Smartphone users wants to update their software with latest release Android 2.3.3. Now Android users can download and install update manually of Android 2.3.3. Reports from Google suggested users could be waiting as long as a matter of weeks for the over-the-air update to land on everyone's handsets, but now the search giant has decided to allow eager punters to download the update and apply it manually.

If you want to be a lucky user to hold latest Android update of 2.3.3, here's how you can get the latest version of everyone's favorite mobile OS without waiting.

NOTE: We're hearing reports of the Nexus S update not working - it seems Google may have given us the incorrect update file. Hopefully the issue will be corrected ASAP!
  1. Download the relevant update for your device: Nexus S and Nexus One.
  2. Rename the downloaded Zip file to 'update.zip' - Nexus One owners MUST do this, while interestingly the Nexus S can flash from any file name.
  3. Copy the renamed file to your phone's storage.
  4. Turn your phone off. Now turn it back on while holding the volume DOWN (Nexus One) or volume UP (Nexus S) button.
  5. Press the volume DOWN button to highlight 'recovery' and press the power button to select it.
  6. Next you should see a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark - press the volume UP and power buttons simultaneously.
  7. This last step depends on your phone - Nexus One users: use the trackball to select 'apply sdcard:update.zip. Nexus S - Choose 'apply update from /sdcard and choose the update file.
After the above steps and a restart you should now be running Android 2.3.3. Welcome to Gingerbread, Nexus One owners!

Update: As pointed out in the comments, it appears Google hasn't so much released the update files as someone's managed to get hold of them. Either way the end result is the same, but it's still worth remembering that this isn't strictly 100% official!

Oracle Sues Google Over Android

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Saturday, August 14, 2010 | 2:36 AM

Oracle Corp to sued Google Inc, alleging patent and copyright infringement in the development of the popular Android Smartphone software.

The suit, filed on Thursday in California federal court, claims that Google "knowingly, directly and repeatedly infringed Oracle's Java-related intellectual property" in developing Android, Oracle spokeswoman Karen Tillman said in a statement. "This lawsuit seeks appropriate remedies."

Oracle acquired Java through its $5.6 billion purchase of Sun Microsystems earlier this year. Analysts said the suit against Google could signal that Oracle intends to be more aggressive in seeking licensees for Java, a technology that is used in many types of Internet-based products.

Oracle Chief Executive Larry Ellison has said he views the Java software as a key asset, pointing to its use in a variety of electronic devices, from PCs to DVD players.

"Sun's corporate philosophy was obviously very different from Oracle's in terms of enforcing the Java patents," said Edward Raines, an IP litigator at Weil Got shall who is involved in separate patent litigation against Oracle.

A Google spokesman said he could not comment on the lawsuit as the company had not had a chance to review it yet.

Analysts say Google's Android operating system uses portions of Java technology.
About 200,000 smart phones and other devices based on the Android operating system are sold each day, Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt said at an August 4 conference.

The case is Oracle of America Inc v Google Inc, in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

Google might release Nexus Two next month?

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Saturday, July 31, 2010 | 5:01 AM

After the success of Google Nexus One, Google is now going to launch its Google Nexus Two Smartphone. The inside news from Google is that they are hard at work on the successor of the Nexus One, dubbed the Nexus Two.

Although not too much information has been revealed about the Nexus Two, the tipster has revealed Google is going to release it within the next month. With other rumors of Android 3.0 in the wild, running on what looks to be the Nexus One, which could actually be the first image of the Nexus Two, shows the device running a new firmware with a piece of paper covering the top of the phone.

Nexus One may not have sold a lot of units, around 135,000 units in the first three months, and was even dropped by Sprint due to poor sales and because its bigger competition, the HTC EVO 4G, was about to debut for release. As we mentioned earlier about Top 5 Android Phones the HTC EVO 4G was on top chart in previous week.

Google stopped shipping the Nexus One earlier this month, closing its online store so consumers couldnt purchase the phone directly from the company themselves.

According to our source, the Nexus Two is set to release next month, but no pricing, date or technical specs were released, but Google is secretly working on the Nexus Two. One thing is for sure, Google will need to make this release a good one if they want to compete with Apples iPhone 4, Microsofts Windows Phone 7, and the HTC EVO 4G.
