Apple TV can run fullscreen iOS Applications - Unofficially

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Saturday, January 7, 2012 | 6:12 AM

Apple TV is one of the low budget Apple iOS device from a company which provides total entertainment to its users. The price of the Apple TV is low as $99.00 contains powerful hardware specification includes Apple A4 chipset with a PowerVR SGX535 and 256 megabytes of RAM, running modified iOS builds from those on iPods touch, iPhone touch, and iPad touch. Apple TV exists as a media center settop box officially but users can also Run any iOS Applications including apps from iPhone, iPod and iPad on jailbroken Apple TV unofficially.
There is one video available on internet which provides you an evidence of running iOS Apps on Apple TV. The video shows demo of some iOS Apps like Facebook, Maps, Safari and YouTube on a jailbroken Apple TV. This is not AirPlay, the apps are running directly from the Apple TV and scaling to 720p.

According to MacDaddy News, MobileX is a window manager for iOS that replaces Springboard, letting iPhone and iPad apps run on the Apple TV. Since the Apple TV doesnt have a touch screen, they are using a combination of VNC, SSH and the Apple Remote to launch and navigate apps. Once the app progress finalized by two developers, you will be able to launch apps using only the remote. I think its one of the cheapest way to run iOS Apps directly on $99 Apple TV.

New and Improved Facebook App for BlackBerry Smartphones - Download Free

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Sunday, May 8, 2011 | 5:17 AM

BlackBerry has released its new and improved Facebook Application "BlackBerry v2.0 beta app" for their Smartphones with new and improved features includes; native contacts, phone, and SMS apps; adds some new feature to chat and profiles; and makes it compatible with the outdated BlackBerry Device Software v5.0. These changes and enhancements underscore Facebooks increasing role as an aggregator of contact information that augments ones own phonebook.

What's New?

Facebook for BlackBerry v2.0 can now click on BlackBerry PINs, phone numbers and email addresses they see on Facebook wall posts or profiles to open a menu of options for using that contact information with the devices native apps. Users can add data to their contacts, call or SMS phone numbers, send an email to clicked address, or send a BlackBerry Message to a PIN. The interface works well than that of Facebook for iPhone, which automatically takes the corresponding action when contact info is clicked, rather than giving the option to save the information for later.

The app has also improved the Chat experience by letting users see if their conversation partner is currently typing another feature lacking from Facebook for iPhone and some other native apps. Users can also search their friend lists to find chat partners quickly. In terms of performance, BlackBerry reports that it has improved Chat connection, shortened online contacts list loading time, and made Chat message delivery notifications more consistent.

The refreshed beta app is now available to registered BlackBerry Beta Zone users, and the new features will likely appear in the official version of the app when its released. Its impressive to see BlackBerry one upping in some way the Facebook for iPhone app.  While it still lacks some major features present on the iOS app including Groups, the companys mobile development team appears to be focusing on deepening the Facebook integration with BlackBerrys core value proposition contact organization.

As mentioned above, BlackBerry has also added following performance enhancements to Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones v2.0:
  • Improved Facebook Chat connection.
  • Cursor no longer disappears while scrolling through the News Feed.
  • Consistent Chat message delivery notifications.
  • Improved Online Contacts list loading time.
How to Download?

To download the latest beta version of Facebook for BlackBerry Smartphones v2.0, you need to register to become a BlackBerry Beta Zone member. Please note that you must reside in one of the countries listed here in order to participate in the beta.

Now you can make free Voice Call through Facebook to any of your Facebook friends who are on Facebook Chat. T-Mobile the leading cellular company in United States have launched the new application, called Bobsled, in order to offer voice chat via Facebook Chat. The Bobsled service is usable by anyone, even those outside the United States, and allows them to make voice calls to friends who are on Facebook Chat. Voice messages can also be left on the 'Walls' of different Facebook users, and these can be made public or private.

T-Mobiles new offering comes just a few days after Jajah also unveiled free calls via Facebook. The U.S. wireless subsidiary of international giant Vodafone has made Bobsled available for free download on a Facebook page, as well as a website devoted to the service.

According to Brad Duea, Senior Vice President at T-Mobile:
Customers can use the Bobsled application for Facebook to place voice calls to their friends through Facebook Chat with just one click.  This makes it quick and simple to place an impromptu call to a Facebook friend.  The application eliminates the need for dialing you simply click on a friends name to start the conversation. Theres also no need to remember screen names or to input numbers. This even works when connecting with your friends around the globe. Calls from a PC/Mac to a PC/Mac are free, regardless of where you are connecting.

Bobsled include adding video chat to its list of features, and even porting the application to other forms of media, such as Internet-enabled television sets and even gaming consoles, such as Microsoft's Xbox 360. Even further down the line, the company aims to potentially enable calls and text messages to both cellular devices and landline phones via Bobsled. A previously announced partnership between Facebook and Skype has left many people expecting the two would together launch first free phone calls the social network, which makes the announcements by T-Mobile and Jajah all the more novel.

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Saturday, January 15, 2011 | 12:57 PM

Do you wants to get facebook updates without being on the social network website? The answer is "Yes", Now you can get your friends status updates even when you cant have the social network site open in your browser, like when you are at the office or outside at home? A new application called Facebook Desktop can do it for you easily.

When friends post updates, comment on a photo, create a new tag or do anything else that would trigger a story to go out to others newsfeeds, Facebook Desktop users will receive notifications on their desktops; similar to how instant messages appear.

Facebook Desktop also sends notifications about new messages, group invites, event invites and friend requests. The application works on both Windows and Apple platforms.

You can download Facebook Desktop Application here for free.

Chris Bihis, an engineer at Adobe, in a post on WebProNews says;

I moved away from my home in Vancouver for work and so Facebook has been a great tool to help keep me in touch with everyone. I found, though, that the browser metaphor for the Facebook stream just wasnt working for me. I didnt like refreshing my home page constantly to see what people were up to. I also didnt like keeping a browser open whenever I wanted to read some of my friends posts. So, I made a simple AIR app that hits the Facebook APIs, grabs the latest posts, and delivers them to me in an unobtrusive way. I ended up finding it so useful, I started adding more and more features, like the ability to pause or resume, replay missed notifications, update my status, etc. Eventually, I was encouraged by a friend to polish it up and release it for others to use, and so here we are!

Skype for iPhone Video Calling Feature Over 3G and Wi-Fi

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Thursday, December 30, 2010 | 11:31 AM

As we expected before, Skype for iPhone is turning out in 2011 with latest feature of video calling to its Skype App for iPhone. In Skype 3.0 version, you can place video calls from Skype on the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and 4th-Generation iPod touch, and you can also receive video calls on the iPad and the 3rd-Generation iPod touch. Video calling works over both Wi-Fi and 3G.

On iOS devices with two cameras, you can stream video from either. iPhone 3GS users, of course, can only stream video from that devices sole rear-facing camera.

You can use the Skype app to place calls to other folks using the app, or to folks using Skype on their computers. As it did before, the Skype app continues to offer instant messaging, text messaging, audio-only chats, and the ability to call landlines and mobile phones at low rates.

Apples FaceTime technology is currently limited to Wi-Fi calling only. One might wonder whether Skypes timing for adding video chat to its app might aim to make us forget about the company's recent extended outage, but that would require remembering said outage happened in the first place.

Skype for iPhone is free. Video calling requires iOS 4.0 or later, but the app can run on any device with at least iOS 3.0.

PlayStation Games & Apps Coming to iPhone & Android

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Sunday, December 19, 2010 | 1:45 AM

Before we had reported about popular iPhone game "Angry Birds" availability for PS3, Wii and XboX 360. But now it seems that every gaming platform are rotating their way and now you will be soon able to play PlayStation games, apps into iPhone and Android platform. Yes you have heard it correct "Playstation Apps are now coming to iPhone and Android Now".

This news was revealed on Official Playstation Blog in Europe, the aptly named Official PlayStation App will make landfall in the U.K., France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands "very soon" and while no mention was made of a North American launch date, I can't imagine we'll have to wait for the U.S. version too much longer.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to play Super Stardust HD or Echochrome II on the upcoming app, but at least you'll be able to keep tabs on your PS3 trophy count, as well as what your pals are playing and whether they're online.

The PlayStation app will also deliver the scoop on new PlayStation games and hardware, as well as any incoming announcements (such as PS3 or PSP firmware updates or PSN service bulletins) from the official PlayStation blog.

Last but not least, you'll be able to share articles on the PlayStation app with fellow gamers via Facebook and Twitter.

The new PlayStation app will work on any iPhone or iPod Touch with iOS 4 or better installed, while the Android version requires Android 1.6 or higher.

The European wing of Sony's PlayStation division adds that it's "already working" on a new version of the app that will add support for more countries and languages, and that we can expect "tons more features" in the months ahead.

The ability to actually play mobile PlayStation games on a phone, however, might end up being relegated to the long-rumored, supposedly Android-powered PlayStation Phone, sightings of which have been popping up on the Web for weeks now.

Unsurprisingly, the PlayStation Blog post had nothing to reveal about the mysterious "Zeus Z1" slider, which is said to have its own PlayStation app specifically for mobile games.

At least we'll have the PlayStation app and our old PSPs to tide us over until the Z1 or whatever it ends up being called finally rears its head.

Facebook Application for Android Now Includes Chat

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Thursday, December 16, 2010 | 2:04 AM

Android users can chat now with their Facebook Application. Facebook App for Android has been updated with its almost completely functional feature of Facebook Chat.

The official facebook app now has a Chat interface that presents open chats up at the top so you can see whos around at a quick glance. This means you no longer have to use third party apps, like Trillian for Android, that used to be the only way you could chat on the go.

Previously, the Facebook application for iOS was the only one to include this feature, according to Erictric.com. Another update to the old version is that the new app now has push notifications alerting you every time you receive a new chat. This is especially cool because it means you can get a message even when the application isnt being used.

You can have your phone flash, ring, or vibrate any time you get a friend request, message, and event invite.

The push notifications can also be set to alert you anytime you get messages, comments, and wall posts so you dont have to open the app to see what people are saying to you.

Developers say there have also been some bug fixes in this updated app, so if you have a Droid, make sure you download the update now.

'Angry Birds' Available for Wii, PS3, Xbox 360

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Saturday, November 27, 2010 | 3:15 AM

"Angry Birds," one of the most successful mobile games in history, is taking its bird-slinging game mechanics to a new platform: the traditional game console.

Rovio, the company behind the popular iPhone and Android game franchise, says that it is working on a version of the game for the Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation 3.

CEO Peter Vesterbacka also told the BBC that the games would launch next year, although he wouldn't reveal much more beyond that.

Vesterbacka also revealed a second piece of news: the company is actively working on "Angry Birds 2." The new game isn't a sequel to the original though, but is instead a completely new game featuring the angry birds and the evil pigs.

As for the premise of the game, Vesterbacka told the BBC that, "the pigs will be a lot more active than just being slingshotted at by birds."

He also added that there will be a lot more of the pigs in "Angry Birds 2."
