Top Five Operating Systems of 2010-2011 - Statistic Report

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Monday, October 3, 2011 | 7:39 AM

According to the current statistic report from StatCounter.com in which they have compared the statistic of Top Five Operating Systems from September 2010 till October 2011, OS includes Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Mac OSX and Linux and its really strange for me to know the result as compare to my previous report.

The current statistic report shows that Windows 7 has finally overtake Windows XP, which is obvious and good to hear from latest Microsoft OS. Windows 7 now holds the total percent of 43.84% share of market as compare to Windows XP which were holds only 38.65% when its was launched back in 2001, but the strange part is that Mac OSX and Linux are going smoothly fine and they are on same platform or line of growing and there is no Ups and Downs as compare to Microsoft's New OS Windows 7.

Have a look at following statistic image of StatCounter:

Steve Jobs holds the mike to announce the new flagship of software suites for Mac and iDevices, Apple announced that to date, they have had more than 14 billion downloads, with over 90,000 iPad apps. They have paid developers more than $2.5 billion dollars so far.

Apple started off the new feature list with notifications. Apple has removed the old notification popup system for a more inline notification system, making it less annoying when you're watching a video or playing a game. The 'notification center' will act similar to Android, where your menu swipes down, revealing alerts for all of your phone, messages, emails and more. The notification center is even on your lock screen too.

The lock screen has received a major update, allowing for notifications from apps, messages, and even listening to voice mail without having to slide to unlock the phone.

iOS 5 Twitter support
Much rumored beforehand, Apple has introduced Twitter natively into iOS 5, with a 'one click' option for applications to let you use Twitter functionality.

All you'll need to do is sign in through the Settings menu and any app can request integration with your Twitter account, meaning no more constant signing in to every new application you download. It's also fully integrated with the Camera and Photo apps, for example.

You can also tweet articles from Safari and locations from Maps.

iOS 5 Safari
A new reading mode has been introduced in Safari, which removes distraction and provides you with a single, scrolling story. Bye bye, ads! A built in dictionary makes it easier to keep your spelling under control, and for the iPad: a split keyboard.

Simply grabbing it with your thumbs and sliding upwards will split it in two, making it easier to tap out emails more speedily.

iOS 5 Game Center
Game Center now lets you browse and download games directly, as well as introducing Achievementpoints, There's also Friend Discovery. Gamer profiles have been updated to include photos as well, plus turn-based gaming is baked right into the application for more responsive gaming.

The new application is very similar to the SMS application, but is completely free. Similar to BBM (BlackBerry Messenger), the application allows you and your friends to instant message one another, from anywhere in the world, without the added roaming charges. iMessage requires WiFi or 3G to send and receive.

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Sunday, May 1, 2011 | 12:28 AM

If you are Ubuntu Geek than this news is for you, Ubuntu has released the new version of Ubuntu 11.04. You can download it from the previously linked site free of charge. Among the various new features, the Unity interface is set as the default UI, and includes the launcher (an OS X like dock), Its most noticeable change is the application launcher on the left side of the screen. Similar to Windows 7 taskbar, it lets you drag and drop icons to and from it, as well as launch apps quickly and easily. According to the Ubuntu website, the OS can boot in as little as 7 seconds.

The Unity interface was originally conceived for smaller screens on netbooks, and offers easier file management, a new dashboard that gives you easier access to your applications and files, and Workspaces that simplify managing multiple windows. If you dont like these new interface elements, you can always go back to Ubuntus Classic interface.

Driving all of this eye candy is Gnome 2.32.1 (according to Ubuntu Vibes).  If your current equipment is not capable of Unity, the classic desktop experience will kick in as to keep you moving along with minimal lag.  Those of you wanting to experiment with Gnome 3, it cannot be installed via the Ubuntu repositories, and there have been reports of system instabilities post installation, though there is a workaround.  If you're ready to install, there are 3 options for download, one for a CD/USB stick type installation, another to create a second boot partition alongside windows, and another for a standard standalone installation.  The downloads are a one size fits all affair no longer is the Ubuntu Netbook edition or Desktop edition; there's just a single download for all platforms.

The best part of characteristic of Ubuntu is that if youd like to try it, you can download its 698MB image, burn that to a CD, and then run it from the CD without having to install it on your machine. Its a great way to try out this Linux-based operating system thats getting to be so refined, its almost as easy to use as a Mac or PC.

90% of Windows copies are pirated in China says Microsoft

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Sunday, January 23, 2011 | 2:06 AM

According to Microsoft's CEO, Steve Ballmer, when he met with a number of high ranking government officials, including United States president Barak Obama, and Chinese president Hu Jintao, according to NetworkWorld.com.

Steve Ballmer raised some issues and concerns with Chinese president Hu, discussing how 90% out of 100% copies of Windows in China are pirated and only 10% is legit. Microsoft estimates that 90% of China uses some form of pirated software on their computer, with over half of the countries residents still using Windows XP and Internet Explorer 6, a claim which is backed up by StatsCounter.com.
84% of Chinese users still running Windows XP and over 50% using Internet Explorer 6, Microsoft addresses the concern that these users may be at risk of worms, Trojans, spyware and other malicious software running on their computers. The reason for China still running dated software on their computers is because of piracy. Some users are too afraid to upgrade, in case they can't bypass the security system on the operating system.

White House quoted Obama raising the concerns from Steve Ballmer says;

"We're making progress on making sure that the government procurement process in China is open and fair to American businesses. And we've made progress as a consequence of this state visit".

"Some of it has to do with intellectual property protection. So we were just in a meeting with business leaders, and Steve Ballmer of Microsoft pointed out that their estimate is that only 1 customer in every 10 of their products is actually paying for it in China. And so can we get better enforcement, since that is an area where America excels intellectual property and high-value added products and services."

Microsoft has been battling piracy for years in America, and has gained tremendous ground in the market.

Google's CR-48 Chrome OS Laptop Runs Mac OS X & Windows 7

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Saturday, January 1, 2011 | 9:57 PM

Google have launched its first of its kind Cr-48 Chrome Notebook. The Cr-48 Chrome Notebook is the test notebook designed for the Pilot program by Google. Google will distribute the laptop through its Chrome OS Pilot Program, in a sort of public beta. You actually have to apply to join the program, and there are going to be a limited number of the laptops available.

It's ready when you are, booting in about 10 seconds and resuming from sleep instantly. Theres built-in Wi-Fi and 3G, so you can stay connected everywhere, and a webcam for video chat. The vibrant 12-inch LCD display, full-size keyboard and oversized touchpad let you enjoy the web comfortably. And at just 3.8 pounds with over eight hours of active usage and a week of standby time, its easy to take along for the ride.

Chrome Cr-48 Laptops not only runs Chrome OS, but also it can runs Mac OS X and Windows 7 too. But its not Google who is officially providing these OS to run in Cr-48 because Mac OS X Snow Leopard and Windows 7 probably werent in Google's plan of an open development strategy for device.

Windows 7 install screen on Cr-48
Two accomplishments came within rather a close period of each other, one Cr-48 was hacked to run Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.5 and the other uses Windows 7. Both hacks require flashing modified BIOS on the Cr-48's. On the Insanely Mac forums, damis648 who writes a guide on how to put Mac OS X on your Cr-48, explaining the reason for needing the modified BIOS is due to the fact that the BIOS the Cr-48 ships with works differently than both the legacy BIOS and standard EFI.

Everybody seems to be waiting a long for news about Google next big project Chrome Operating System. So now your wait is over. Google has now plan an event this Tuesday to share some exciting news regarding its Chrome OS. Google could finally be ready to shed a little more light on the progress of its Chrome OS project.

The company sent out invitations to an event next Tuesday, December 7, in San Francisco "where we plan to share some exciting news about Chrome," according to a copy of the invitation. No further details were provided.

The Chrome OS Net books and laptop were once expected to arrive before the end of the year, as Google is now expected to merely have a beta software version ready by the end of the year, with consumer-oriented systems not ready until 2011. The idea behind Chrome OS is to create a lightweight browser-based operating system that would run just Web applications, as opposed to native ones.

Another possibility for the event is that Google is ready to show off the Chrome Web Store, which was also expected earlier in the year but has slipped. So keep in touch with us for more update about this main event.

Ubuntu 10.10 to Get Multi Touch

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Thursday, August 19, 2010 | 4:19 AM

Multitouch capabilities might be all the rage on portable devices, and Windows 7 had made much of the gesture and touch capabilities built into the operating system, but for now desktop Linux users have largely been left out in the cold. However, Canonicalthe company behind the Ubuntu desktop Linux distributionhas announced that multitouch support will be included in Ubuntu 10.0 (codenamed Maverick Meerkat). The technology will add multitouch support and gesture interaction with applications, and although many applications will have to receive substantial interface makeovers to be multitouch-friendly, Canonical is working on folding multitouch into Unity, its lightweight netbook environment.

The worlds expectations of software experience are being raised by advances in mobile computing. We are bringing that revolution to the Linux desktop: for window management and applications, Canonical wrote in a blog post. Though our work at the application level has only just started, we are certain that multi-touch and gestures will be central to the way we use Linux applications in future.

Canonical is distributing GPL-licensed libraries so applications can develop multitouch interfaces, and has also posted a set of guidelines for building consistent multitouch interfaces.

For now, the multitouch effort is concentrating on high-end convertible tablet PCs; however, broader hardware support is expected, including support for 3M and N-Trig hardware, and eventually touchpads and input devices like Apples new Magic Trackpad.
