Lock Google's Account with SMS Code - Google's 2-Step Verification Method

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 | 5:16 AM

Google has always known for its extraordinary features for its products. Google always try to introduce such features which no one in industry provides to its users and now Google has comes one step forward to introduced "2-Step Verification" method for all of its Google Accounts and Google Products. Now Google users can able to lock up their Google Accounts through their cell phones.

Google's 2-Step Verification provides users an strongest level of security to your Google Account by necessitating you to have access to your phone as well as your username and password when you sign in to any Google's product and service online. Additionally you will require entering a code that Google will send you via text or voice message upon signing in.

According to Google Official Statement;
"2-step verification drastically reduces the chances of having the personal information in your Google account stolen by someone else. Why? Because hackers would have to not only get your password and your username, they'd have to get a hold of your phone".
I am personally using 2-step verification method and i strongly recommend all users to switch over to it. With their "2 step verification system", u can lock your account with your mobile phone and it is virtually guaranteed that only the person who's in possession of the Mobile No. (YOU) will be able to access the account.

Reason Behind New Changes in Google Products Interface and Design

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Friday, July 1, 2011 | 12:49 PM

Google is customizing more of its products after the change in design and interface of Google Search, Google has already made an announcement in its previous official blog post and we had already review and discussed about the change in design and interfaces of various Google Products and Websites in our previous post. Now Google has decided to change the look and interface of its E-mail service called 'Gmail'. Soon you will be able to feel the change in interface of Gmail service and other related websites of Gmail. The new changes has made from Google after the announcement of Google's Social Networking website known as 'Google+'. These changes are all part of that particular website.

What's new in Google's new Interface?

Google's Search:

The most popular and most used Search Engine in the world Google Search interface has changed and got a new look. Google has changed the interface here greatly by introducing a new, less colorful color scheme around the Search interface. Link colors remain largely unchanged; however the sidebar has received a nice shade of black with red/orange highlights to go with. The search bar has received a grey backing and the overall top bar has been changed from white to black.

Google's Gmail:

Google has now introduced new Gmail theme and interface but you have to choose that new theme by yourself. You won't be able to see that new theme automatically. You actually have to change your theme; we recommend the use of the Dense theme as it saves space. Again, the issue of scrolling seems apparent with the new Gmail theme, as generally interface items are more spaced (especially lists). You fit fewer items on the screen and it appears as though buttons are optimized for touchscreen rather than a keyboard and mouse.

Google's Map:

Google also updated the new design and interface of its most popular product 'Google Maps'. The new interface feels more modern and refreshed, and Google has added the handy feature of My Places, which lists all places you have saved and rated for easy re-access in case you feel like visiting the same place again. There have been no changes to the actual maps part of Google Maps, so itll feel familiar in that respect.

Soon users will notice more and more new changes in Google's websites and products. So you have to get prepare for the new interface developed by the Google. Google is also encouraging users to give feedback on their new designs, and that can be provided here.

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Sunday, January 2, 2011 | 2:57 AM

Have you deleted your Gmail contacts mistakenly? Or lost your Gmail contacts data accidently? Now you won't have to worry about your deleted Gmail contacts. Now you can recover and restore your Gmail Contacts easily without any problem. Google is now offering to Gmail users reverse any changes they have made to their Gmail contacts over a 30-days time period.

Thats mean if you have deleted your Gmail contacts or have made any changes to your Gmail contact list within the past 30 days, you can go into your Gmail account and restore the desired version of your contacts list according to your preference.

This new feature will also come in handy if youre trying to switch devices and sync contacts but accidentally end up deleting contact information from your Gmail account.

To try the feature out, just go to Gmails Contacts section and click on the More actions menu. From there, you can select Restore contacts. When you do, youll see a dialog box a lot like this one:

When you select a time frame, all of your Gmail contacts will be restored exactly as they were at that time. Any new contacts youve added since then wont exist, and any contacts you had deleted will be back again. You can also undo a contacts restoration, if you like.

What do you think of this new Gmail feature? Let us know in comments

Make Free Phone Calls Through Gmail

Now good news for Gmail users in New Year 2011, Google has announced that Gmail users are now able to make free phone calls to the U.S. and Canada and also make cheap phone calls over international calls (Call around the world for pennies per minute) When calling featured was added to Gmail back in August, the company said that itd be making such calls free for at least the rest of the year, with per minute rates starting at $0.02 per minute for international dialing.

The service made a major splash initially, with 1 million calls placed in the first 24 hours and pundits predictably calling the service a potential Skype killer. That said, we havent heard many updates about the traction the service is getting since then, though free calling for all of 2011 certainly stands to lure more users.

Weve more good news from Google, So Stay Tuned and let us know in the comments if youre making phone calls from Gmail.

Facebook Vs. Gmail E-mail Conflict

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Sunday, November 14, 2010 | 2:26 AM

We know facebook is now introducing its new service call E-mail Inbox. Which is quite getting news from most of the Tech Experts that its a new battle between Google and Facebook.

Facebook is supposedly launching an email service this coming Monday and the hype is pretty high at this point. With many young users leveraging the Facebook inbox as their primary messaging service rather than email, why would Facebook find it necessary to launch their own email service on Monday? One answer is that Facebook needs access to the inbox to determine individuals true authority and influence.

If the rumors are correct, this might explain why Facebook and Google have been going at it recently with concerns to user data. Google has been preventing Facebook from importing Gmail data, and perhaps this is because such a feature would help people migrate from Gmail to Facebook email with ease.

Is Google right to be worried? We won't know for sure until Monday, but, in the meantime, here are five ways Facebook email could keep Gmail on its toes:

  • Smarter Conversation View
  • Groups Integration
  • Integrated Bios
  • Photo Slideshows
  • The "Like" in Links

Update:
Facebook has now updated its name server to publicly reflect that the company owns the domain name. Facebook would have to make it public within 24 hours of any product launch, which means that many people are now expecting Facebook to use the fb.com domain as part of any email product released on Monday.

Google Block 188 Million Emails Spam

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 | 2:39 AM

You may have seen slightly less spam coming into your email inbox recently, but those messages were more likely than usual to contain a virus, according to a report by Google.

The amount of spam being transmitted dipped slightly in August and September, the study found. Spam in the third quarter of the year was down 24 percent compared to the same period last year, the report said.

In August viruses in emails processed by Google increased by 111 percent, compared to the same month last year, the company said in its statement. Google's system blocked a record-setting 188 million emails containing viruses in just one day.

This malware is increasingly being housed in messages purporting to break news about a celebrity's death. The virus can unleash itself when the recipient clicks on a file attached to an email.
For the study, Google analyzed more than 3 billion messages processed by its system each day during a three-month period.

Gmail Bug Turned Email into Spam

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Sunday, August 29, 2010 | 3:30 AM

Google has fixed an issue with Gmail that caused a small percentage of its accounts to repeatedly send email messages over and over.

The bug, which affected less than 2.5 percent of the Gmail userbase, according to Google, involved odd behavior including the repeated messages. The bug was resolved Thursday night, according to Google's Google Apps dashboard.

"The problem with Google Mail should be resolved," Google's tech support staff wrote. "We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support. Please rest assured that system reliability is a top priority at Google, and we are making continuous improvements to make our systems better."

The bug affected at least two writers for PCMag.com, who initially dismissed thoughts of a bug, suspecting that their PCs may have become infected with malware. The repeated messages also resulted in several Gmail users being added to spam lists, including www.Backscatterer.org and www.SORBS.net, according to WgtnDan, a user who posted to the Google Gmail support thread describing the problem.

At a press conference announcing the integration of Google Voice and Gmail this week, Google executives were asked about the number of Gmail users. Executives declined to provide an exact number, although comScore numbers cited by The Wall Street Journal put the number at over 160 million, putting the maximum number of users affected by the bug at about 4 million users.
