Internet Communication Technology Improving In Face of Economic Downturn

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 | 10:44 AM

The whole world has been experiencing the consequences of economic turmoil, with bank bailouts, government spending cuts and some countries facing the prospect of a double-dip recession. However, while traditional industries and commercial ventures have been taking serious hits through this period of instability, the internet-communication technology that is altering the way we interact and do business is improving in spite of the problems. From 4G wireless internet and free wi-fi hotspots to faster fixed-line connection speeds and fibre-optic cabling, there has never been an better time for people to get online. The implications of this are far reaching and for some commentators it will be the internet that aids the global economy in its return to growth and prosperity.

Part of the reason behind the improvements in internet-communication technology in recent years is that campaigners are beginning to convince governments that having web access is a basic human right and not a privilege available only to those that can afford it. Bodies such as the EU have recently rolled out legislation that will ensure telecoms companies are able to invest in improving the infrastructure that facilitates web connectivity, as well as making broadband available not only in populated areas, but also out in the more rural, remote regions of developed and developing nations.

Shifts in the type of consumer electronics that are most popular and widely available have also helped to improve internet-communication technology. Smart phones and tablet computers are becoming the first port of call for anyone who wants to surf the web, download files or carry out e-commerce transactions. This means that mobile network providers have to adapt to considerably heavier data use, while the businesses which run websites must optimise their pages for viewing on a mobile device rather than on a traditional desktop or laptop computer.

While this optimisation of sites was certainly necessary in the early days, the hardware capabilities of smart phones and tablets have become so significant that it is easy for users to access a fully featured page without missing out on any element. Dual-core and now quad-core processors are becoming the standard thanks to smart phones such as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and tablets such as the Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime. Support for multimedia elements embedded in Flash or HTML5 formats is also included on a growing number of internet-communication technology devices.

Of course the rise of e-commerce and m-commerce is having a negative impact on traditional high-street retailers, with the proportion of the population who visit bricks-and-mortar outlets to do their shopping decreasing. It seems that technological improvements and a greater focus on connectivity could actually be the saviour of such outlets. Consumers are now used to researching products and prices on their smart phones while they are out and about, so retailers are keen to give them the tools to achieve this while keeping them in-store as they surf. In addition, the emergence of NFC (Near Field Communication) chips in smart phones, that allow users to turn their handset into a digital wallet to make payments at real-world shops, is making sure that there is a multichannel approach to retail available to all consumers.

While there can be no certainty about the economic future of the globe, it seems unlikely that wireless internet communication technology will not play a major role in promoting growth and driving innovation.

iPhone's Siri Hacked to Start Car

The new iPhone 4S has some incredible new features. Amongst these would be its ability to provide a weather report or directions to a particular destination. Siri is able to read your text messages to you. Siri can even be asked to remember dates and appointments. Now, another function for Siri has been discovered. Siri can be used to start up your car.

An IT professional from New York by the name of Brandon Fiquett was able to create a way in which for Siri to do this. Using a proxy SIRI server, Fiquett created a plug-in that allowed him to use Siri on his iPhone 4S to send commands to his car, which is an Acura TL. The plug-in he created takes Siri commands and passes then on to Fiquett's personal web server. After this, a connection is made to a special module that has been installed in the vehicle. This module is known as a Viper SmartStart module. Through this process, Siri can not only start the cars engine and stop it, it does even more. The alarm system can be either armed or disarmed. The trunk can be popped using Siri. Additionally, Siri can be used to put the alarm into panic mode.

Fiquetts work was in an effort to prove a concept. However, some hackers have already been using the iPhone 4Ss Siri to target certain vehicles for theft. Some have even taken what Fiquett determined and going through other technological devices found within a car such as media players and GPS systems.

Keep in mind only people who are rather technological savvy can do this. Since Siri is relatively new, coming out with the iPhone 4S release in the middle of October, it will be interesting to see what other alternative users people find for their iPhone 4S using Siri.

There's a range of new humourous sites that look into the silly things that Siri says, such as Whatsiriissaying.co.uk, so check out these sites to see what Siri's take on your questions is.

Written By Lingkar Dunia on Saturday, December 17, 2011 | 6:25 AM

According to the latest report from Flurry.com about Comparison between iOS Apps and Android Apps Revenue Sharing, its revealed that iOS Apps are much profitable in terms of revenue as compare to Android Apps. iOS Apps make four times higher revenue as compare to Android platform. Flurry Analytics has also found that developers are choosing to start new projects on iOS over Android at a ratio of almost 3 to 1. No doubt Android is an open source platform and many big phone maker companies like Samsung, Motorola, Sony etc. is now offering Android devices but the statistic makes it clear that Apple iOS is still more popular platform in terms of Apps Revenue as compare Android platform.

I personally think that Android is new in smartphone arena and it has potential to gain more revenue as compare to any other platform including iOS and its popularity speaks itself that it has already beat its competitors when choosing Smartphones.

Nano-SIM Card Introduced for Smartphones - Micro Micro SIM

Giesecke & Devrient (G&D), a German based technology company has introduced a new Nano SIM Card (Micro-Sim Card) for Smartphones manufacturer companies. According to the company spokesman, the new Nano-Sim card is just two-thirds in size of the Micro-SIM. The company more said that the new Nano-SIM will modify manufacturers to produce such devices that are even thinner and smaller in size.

The new Nano-SIM card measures approximately 12x9mm (less than half an inch around), some 30 percent smaller than the Micro-SIM. The thickness of the card has also been reduced by about 15 percent, a huge amount considering how thin existing SIM cars already are.
